Facebook Live. From my Cold Dead Hands.

Social Media isn't Dangerous. People are Dangerous

By Matthew Bright

An Ohio man shot and killed a older man in Cleveland on Facebook Live that was shared millions of times.

I don't really want to say much about the story, but is Facebook Live to blame? There's a long list of reasons I've seen over the last few days, so I start to think about Dylan Roof, who before killing 9 black people in a church put the video on SnapChat. It's one of the most eerie videos you will ever see.

What about the man who killed a TV reporter and cameraman during a live broadcast then posted the video online for everyone to see from his perspective. I do not remember the national discussion being about the ease of access to camera phone technology. Our immediate thought is that this feature is dangerous? Social Media isn't Dangerous, people are dangerous.
Social Media Apps

We want to restrict access to Facebook live. We want to be able to monitor Facebook Live. Why are we always ready to blame Social Media when it comes to killings? That's a slippery slope. People are motivated by these heinous and life destroying acts through movies, video games, and television right?

It's just a few bad apples on Facebook Live. Majority of the time Social Media does a great job sharing photos, keeping us safe, and connected. Some of us are just too quick to blame Social Media. Have you ever used social media? How would you know it's dangerous or the reason someone would take a life?

It's not just used to entice killers to post imagery of their life altering acts, people share photos of cats and Michael Jordan memes. What about the families? Where are the parents to teach them how to use Social Media responsibly?

I hope all this sounded weird to you to, do something about these guns, don't tread on my Snapchat.
